Program

This program (research mode only) is offered as part/full time program for undergraduate that intended to continue their studies in NGN. The offered program is cross discipline and cross platform program. Next Generation Internet/Networking (NGN) is a broad term to describe some key architectural evolutions in telecommunication core and access networks that will be deployed over the next 5-10 years. The general idea behind NGN is that one network transports all information and services (voice, data, and all sorts of media such as video) by encapsulating these into packets but it is not just about a common transport network also creation/development of new technologies and innovative service architectures etc.


Thesis

The degree can be pursued through research under the supervision of at least one academic staff of the center. A candidate is required to complete a thesis (English or Bahasa Malaysia) in a stipulated time period. Full-time candidates for MSc will normally complete their theses in 2 - 3 semesters and for PhD in 5 - 7 semesters.


Eligibility

In order to be considered for acceptance into the MSc programme, a candidate must have obtained the minimum of a second upper class honours degree, or equivalent (CGPA 3.00). For universities which do not use the British grading system, or the U.S.'s CGPA system, a cut-off point of 70% will be used. For PhD programme a candidate must obtained a good MSc degree or a bachelor's degree with a first class honors (or CGPA 3.67). In addition to the above entry requirements, an applicant must also fulfill the following requirement: A bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Computer Science or Information Technology-related field. Graduates in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer-Engineering, etc. may also apply.

Introduction

National Advanced IPv6 Centre of Excellence (NAv6) is positioned to be the Malaysian hub that provides a conducive environment to do research and development work related to IPv6 activities. This centre would be a monitoring and auditing body which would provide services and IPv6 expertise to the government and the general public.

  • - Lead and produce human resources with a postgraduate degree and scientist in the field of Next Generation Networks (NGN) by integrating R&D and industrial cooperation as part of this program.
  • - Bridge the gap between academic and industries in NGN arena.
