IPv6 is the next generation protocol designed by the IETF to replace the current version of the Internet Protocol, IPv4. During the last decade, IP has conquered the world's networks. Most of today's Internet uses IPv4, which has been remarkably resilient in spite of its age, but it is beginning to have problems. As the Internet makes the transition from IP version 4 to IP version 6, it will be necessary to allow IPv4-based clients to access IPv6-based servers, and IPv6-based clients to access legacy services.
